Pradosha vrata is a Hindu vrata for the worship of Shiva and Parvati. The Pradosha worship is done in the evening twilight or sandhya kala on the Trayodashi of both lunar fortnights (Shukla and Krishna Paksha). These are the 13th tithi, or lunar days, from the New Moon (Amavasya) and Full Moon

Of all the pradosha’s Shani Pradosh and Soma Pradosh are considered to be important.[citation needed] Sani Pradosham is the Pradosha Vrata falling on Saturday. And Soma Pradosh is observed when Pradosha falls on a Monday.

Maha Pradhosh is the Pradosha which falls before or on Maha Sivarathri in the month of Maagha in traditional Hindu Calendar.

The performance of the vrata involves a fast followed by a vigil. A bath is taken one hour before sunset and Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Ganesha, Skanda, and Nandi are worshipped. Following this, Lord Shiva is invoked. The Pradosh story is read out after the formal worship is concluded.

Pradosh Vrat is being observed on this day on Tuesday, June 3rd, due to the date of Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha. Since Tuesday, it will be angry. Worshiping Lord Shiva on Trayodashi Tithi on Tuesday cures diseases and all kinds of troubles. According to Shiva Purana and Skanda Purana, Pradosh Vrat is considered to be a fast to fulfill all wishes.

  • This fast is observed every month on the thirteenth date of Krishnapaksha and Shuklapaksha. This fast is dedicated to Lord Shiva. On this fast, Lord Shiva should be worshiped in the evening in the Pradosh period. The time after sunset and before nightfall is called Pradosh Kaal. Trayodashi Tithi gets its important result when there is a special coincidence with every war.

Pradosha fast and method of worship
Lord Shiva is worshiped in Pradosh Vrat. This fast is performed without water. This fast is specially worshiped in the evening. So before the sun sets in the evening, take a shower again. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshiped by wearing clean white clothes and facing east. After preparing the puja, you should worship Lord Shiva by keeping your face towards the north-east direction.

  1. To get Pradosh fast, one should get up before the sun rises on the day of Trayodashi.
  2. After this, by taking a bath and worshiping Lord Shiva, you should take a pledge to keep a fast throughout the day.
  3. After fasting for the whole day, bathe before the sun and wear white and clean clothes.
  4. Prepare the pavilion at the place where you have to worship, using Gangajal and cow dung.
  5. Make a rangoli with five colors in the pavilion and use the posture of Kush to worship.
  6. First of all worship Lord Ganesha.
  7. Then make a Shivling with clay and worship it methodically.
  8. Also worship Goddess Parvati along with Lord Shiva.
  9. After worshiping Lord Shiva and Parvati, get the Dhoop-Deep Darshan.
  10. Take bath of Lord Shiva’s idol with water, milk, panchamrit. Offer burnt offerings, flowers, worship and worship with material.
  11. In worship of Lord Shiva, use Bel Patra, Dhatura, flowers, sweets, fruits.
  12. Red colored flowers should not be offered to Lord Shiva.
  13. In Pujan, Lord Shiva should be anointed with water while chanting the mantra of Lord Shiva, ‘Oum Namah: Shivaya’.
  14. After this, do Katha and then Aarti.
  15. Immerse the earthen Shivling after worship.
