Ahilyabai Holkar Jayanti 2020

Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Jayanti celebrations in Choundi in Ahmednagar district were disrupted.

Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar (31 May 1725 – 13 August 1795) was the Holkar Queen of the Maratha Malwa kingdom, India. Rajmata Ahilyabai was born in the village of Chondi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. She moved the capital to Maheshwar south of Indore on the Narmada River.

Ahilyabai’s husband Khanderao Holkar was killed in the battle of Kumbher in 1754. Twelve years later, her father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar, died. A year after that she was crowned as the queen of the Malwa kingdom. She tried to protect her kingdom from plundering invaders. She personally led armies into battle. She appointed Tukoji Rao Holkar as the Chief of Army.

Rani Ahilyabai was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu temples. She built hundreds of temples and Dharmashalas throughout India.

They were married at the age of ten to twelve. She was widowed at the age of twenty nine. The husband’s nature was fickle and furious. They tolerated all this. Then when he was forty-four-forty-three years old, his son Malerao died. When Ahilyabai was about sixty-two years old, Dauhitra Nathu passed away. Four years back, son-in-law Yashwantrao Phanse was no more and his daughter Muktabai became Sati . He had affection for Malharrao, the son of a distant relative Tukojirao; She used to think that in future it would handle the doors of governance, system, justice and prajaranjan; But he kept grieving them till the end.

Ahilyabai built temples, built ghats, built wells and stepwells, erected paths, improved wells, opened Annasatras (other realms) for the hungry, thirsty for thirsts, outside the borders of her kingdom. In the temples, scholars were appointed for contemplation and discourse of the scriptures. And, by sacrificing the false temptation of self-respect, always tried to do justice – till death. She was in the same tradition in which Ramshastri, the judge of her contemporary Poona, was followed by Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. It was during her lifetime that the public began to understand and say ‘Devi’. Where did the public see such a big personality? When there was a mess around. There were extreme atrocities in the name of governance and system. The people — ordinary householders, peasants, laborers — were sobbing in a very inferior state. Their only support – religion, superstitions, Fear was being gripped in the grip of tragedies and stereotypes. There was neither power nor faith in justice. What Ahilyabai did — and did so much — in those terrible circumstances of such a period is monumental.

Every year in Indore , Ahilyotsav takes place on the day of Bhadrapada Krishna Chaturdashi . When Ahilyabai traveled all over India for 6 months, the kingdom near village Ubadi was handed over the kingdom to the Patidars of Akavalya , who used to go there. Pleased with his state operation, Ahilyabai asked to give half the kingdom, but he only asked that if the people of my society come to burn the dead in Maheshwar , they should burn them with clothes.

There is a difference of opinion regarding the importance of their temple building and other religious functions.  Ahilyabai spent indiscriminately in these tasks and did not organize the army in a new way. Tukoji Holkar’s army had to bear the brunt of the Northern Expeditions, sometimes it is alleged. These temples have given the outward appearance of Hinduism.  Tukojirao Holkar had twelve lakh rupees when he was demanding from Ahilyabai the rupee and showed the world that I am fed up with money. Then what was the fault of Ahilyabai? The spirit of religion has been the biggest driving force for Hindus; Ahilyabai used the same. The narration of the then superstitions and trends has come up in the novel. One of these beliefs was to jump from a hill in the Narmada arrow near Mandhata and commit suicide to attain salvation

There have been two types of ideologies regarding Ahilyabai. In one, she has been given the title of incarnation of Goddess, in the second she has shown reverence for superstitions and stereotypes along with her superlative qualities. She was like a ray of light in the darkness, which the darkness repeatedly tried to bear. She got the status of a goddess in the society only due to her excellent thoughts and moral conduct.

Death:

The burden of state concern and disconnection of people dear to it. Ahilyabai’s body could not handle all this grief. And on August 13, 1795, his life ended. After Ahilyabai’s death, Tukoji ascended the throne of Indore.

India:

In independent India, the name of Ahilyabai Holkar is taken with great respect. There are chapters about them in the text books of different states.

Since Ahilyabai Holkar is known as a queen who did many things for the good of humanity in different states of India. Therefore, the Government of India and the governments of various states have got their statues built and many welfare schemes are also being run in their name.

A similar scheme is also being run by the Government of Uttarakhand. Which gives full respect to Ahilyabai Holkar. The scheme is named ‘Ahilyabai Holkar Sheep Goat Development Scheme . Under the Ahilabai Holkar Sheep Goat Farming Scheme, huge grant money is provided to the unemployed people of Uttarakhand, BPL ration card holders, women and economically weaker people  for the construction of goat rearing units. For the construction of this unit of about 100000 rupees, 91770 rupees are received from the government in the form of government assistance to the beneficiary of Ahilabai Holkar.
